Great idea for a piece, but doesn't do any real analysis of the point they are trying to make and they don't seem to have considered 3 major points:

We've tried to get a better defender in - can they suggest someone who is a) better than we've got and b) realistically likely to join us for a sensible fee

You can win games by outscoring the opposition. Our woes last season weren't exclusively down to a poor defence and we were much better whenever Bassong played

Strikers are always more expensive than defensive players
