What the umpires should have done

Is told Clarke, in no uncertain terms early on that they expected the overs to be completed by a specified time, eg a reasonable time would have when the evening light went earlier in the match which was 7.25pm. Any time after that and there were problems seeing the ball would have been the fielding teams fault.

It was obvious from an hour or so in that things were slowing down.

If England had been 7 down at 7pm I don't think we would have seen the same inertia in the field.
