Dear Wotb
After 10 years of enjoying the wotb I have been meaning to make this post and finally have done it! Firstly, I thank you for the entertainment and information that you put across. I mean it ?I am not taking the piss. You may not realise that there are probably a lot of Norwich fans like myself who enjoy the comments, banter, analysis, and speculation etc.etc. but who may not have the time, balls or perhaps like me- just apathy - to join in debates and social media generally. I do not attend matches now due to financial/family commitments but again like thousands of others I am still obsessed with the club and listen watch and read about every aspect of what is happening.
The reason I am posting now is that I believe, more than any other season that this could be the most memorable in the history of the club. If the players gel and can work together I am convinced that the most exciting era for our club is about to happen. If they don?t or injury gets in the way then ok, I still believe we will be safe. But going back to why I am making this post, I urge you fans that go home and away to do you?re bit to make this happen. I am not suggesting blind fanaticism but just ask that you get behind the team and players and encourage the slaggers, moaners at a match to either shut up or to consider the influence they may have on others or events.
If you have read this far you may think what right does a non-attending-fan have to make this request.
Well I think I have earned my place as a fan, from when I first went to Carrow Road in 1970 as a 10 year old. Standing in the Barclay and that year if we kicked towards the River End walking through the South Stand at half time. Fortunate to then be part of 71/72 promotion season ?in the rain at Watford away to lift the 2nd Division title. Our first season in Division 1 ending in the most dramatic finish against Palace at Carrow Road in a crowd of 37,000. Then the relegation /promotion years, the excitement of the League Cup. Devastated at Carrow Road when the fog caused the abandonment of our semi final second leg against Chelsea ? and 2 losing finals at Wembley. Following Norwich home and away through the hooligan years of the mid Seventies. Coach stoned at West Ham away- every Norwich goal followed by a chorus of ?your?e gonner get your facking/fooking head kicked in- depending if you were north or south of the country. Nearly expelled from school for going to Middlesborough away-midweek- in 1976 (it was worth it as we won - 1-0 Billy Steele goal ? there was only 50/60 Norwich fans at that match! In the same year went to Rochdale away in January ?again midweek in an FA cup 3rd round replay 0-0 after extra time!
I will stop now as every one of you will have experiences as a fan that will last your lifetime, that you are proud to recall and looking back make up chapters of your life. I may/ may-not post again but would be pleased to be a eye-witness historian of Norwich in the Seventies! My season ticket stopped in the Eighties but carried on attending some games until the Nineties, then quite infrequent now but as passionate as ever.
Real fans will never stop supporting their team ?whether in person at the match or when the uneducated fan makes unjustified comments. OTBC
