Techy question about internet TV

So TalkTalk have sent us an internet TV box and I was trying to hook it up but hit problems when it came to connecting it to the router. They only supplied an ethernet cable for this, which is not practical given that our telly is on the opposite side of the room. Reading the manual they say this can be done wirelessly using 'powerline adapters', but these cost ?35 and apparently if we buy cheaper non-TalkTalk ones they might not be fully compatible. Moreover, I've been doing a bit of reading and these adapters sound a bit dodgy - apparently they cause a lot of disruption on radio frequency and can totally frazzle FM/DAB reception (even for neighbours too). So my question is: is it worth taking a risk on these powerline jobbies, or should I just go to the bother of laying an ethernet cable around the skirting board? Or even say stuff it to internet TV altogether?
