Yes, it's completely worth it

In terms of other Tablets:

Google Nexus 7/10 (the Nexus 7 2 is due out very soon, not sure if they'll update the 10 as well. These are made by Asus)
Asus Transfomer range (check the reviews as there are several different versions and some are better than others. These are kind of expensive new though, so no real saving on iPad price)
Samsung Galaxy Tab range (as above, check the reviews to make sure you get one of the good ones)

I have an iPad 3, it's excellent but very heavy and breakable, I prefer Android and I don't like the fact that you can't have more than 1 account on the iPad, but that's fine if only one person uses it.

I'd probably get a Nexus 7 2, but it's probably smaller than you want
