Some of the bookmagazines you can get in the WH Smiths mag racks are good too.

Whichever way, once you've got the basics sorted the best way to learn is practice.

Oh, and you should see if you can pick up a prime lens (not a zoom), it will revolutionize the quality of the pictures you get from your camera (especially in low light)
