The thing is, I think it relates to how good the phone is as well

Never had any problems with the GPS aspect of mine, but I wouldn't trust my gf's Galaxy Ace as far as I could throw it, even though it's essentially the same OS and even the same manufacturer as mine. Technically it should do mostly the same stuff, but components wise, it's nothing like as good.

I mean, you can get budget phones, budget satnavs etc, but would definitely advise neither. I'm not sure there's such a difference near the top of the range. I really do think there's a place for stand-alone satnavs at the moment, but the need is getting less and less and I'm convinced that will be redundant in a few years for those with a decent smartphone.
