It's gonna fail
There is a similar system to enter my local leisure centre. It's always breaking down. Folk swipe their card all angles, then push against the barrier breaking the sensitive mechanism. The instrumentation and hardware is flimsy, and of course, it has to deal with the shortcomings of human beings.
