Tour buses are a ripoff. Get the heritage Routemaster No.15. Runs between Trafalgar Sq &

Tower Hill. It's standard London bus fare or use an Oyster/Travel card. Kids are free. There's no commentary but the route goes past all the main sites.

Trafalgar Sq, Strand, Fleet St, Old Bailey, St Paul's, Bank, Monument, Tower of London.

Best to get on at one end of the route or the other for a chance of the front seats on the top deck.
Then you could easily spend the day at Tower of London end as there's loads to choose from. Tower Bridge Experience/London Dungeon/climb the Monument/HMS Belfast.

or at Trafalgar Sq there's Covent Garden for market and street entertainers and London Transport Museeum (2 for 1 with your rail tickets)

Best museums for kids:
Science Museum (free)
Nat History (free)
Museum of London (free)
Maritime museum at Greenwich (free)
Museum of Childhood (free) best for U8's
London Transport (entry charge)

BUT seriously don't waste your time and money on waxworks. They're a massive disapointment and full of Japanese and American tourists.
