Interestingly...

...it's the same answer as if you had a ribbon round the "equator" of a tennis ball and raised that a foot off the ball. The new ribbon is, again, just over six and a quarter foot longer than the original one. In fact it's also true if you put a fireproof ribbon round the sun - same answer.
