Michael and she have great commitment, and put she'd loads of money into the club. In their own fields they are both excellent business people, trouble was they didn't understand the football business. First problem was Doomcaster - what a dreadful appointment he turned out to be, and it meant that key decisions were being made by people who didn't really understand the football business. An increasingly disastrous series of managerial appointments pushed us in to League 1 and the brink of extinction and was behind a lot of the anti-Delia sentiment, much of it emotional but also some of it reasoned based on their past mistakes.
Fortunately Doomcaster fell on his sword, creating a key vacancy. McNally was appointed and the rest is Canary legend. At the time I remember thinking that McNally's appointment looked a seriously good bit of business - his pedigree with Celtic and Fulham gave him credibility in my eyes as someone who understood the game and the business - exactly what we were lacking. Arguably his appointment was evidence they recognised their weakness.
As I understand it there was a bit of a tense stand off on the board over Gunny's sacking, but in the end Delia and Jones backed McNally. Bowkett came on board, and the true picture of the finances emerged giving further power to McNally and Bowkett in decision making. Vindication through results, and the division of labour we now have has become embedded. I can imagine Delia and Jones being consulted over further appointments, but more as a courtesy than as the ultimate arbiters as was the case pre-McNally. We are now reaping the benefits in this glorious transfer window.
