Three years ago my wife and I drove around Iceland for 8 days.

We only managed to do the western part of the island so I can't comment on the rest of it. We drove from the Rekyavik region up the coast to Stykkisholmur the got the ferry across to the North Western part and drove around the peninsula to Isafjordur. It's a a long, slow drive but a starkly beautiful place and off the tourist trail up there but well worth doing. We then drove back down the main tourist attactions in the South Western part - Geysir, Gullfoss waterfalls, Thingvellir and Blue Lagoon etc. We'll definitely go back to see more of the island - it's just finding time to do it justice as well as seeing as many other parts of the world as possible!

If you like eating pigeon then try puffin - they taste very similar. Brennivin, an Icelandic schnapps is worth a try too.
