Basically I am confused by the club's transfer dealings since the summer of 2004. Many deals, both in and out, seem to make no sense from a footballing point of view. I raise the question time and again in the hope of gaining a response in the same way that the ludicrous rumours posted here eventually provoked a response.
Joe Ferrari does not know whether anyone at the club has a connection with a licensed football agent - so I had planned to raise the question at Diss - but work committments mean I shall be back in Cornwall next week so I am emailing Neil Doncaster instead. I'll let you know what, if anything, he says.
The club makes a great play of being very open, so I hope that the reason Ferrari knows nothing is simply because there is nothing to know. But because of this openness some transfer deals are concerning - the ones that concern me are
the sale of MacKay
the replacement of Edworthy with Louis-Jean
the replacement of Svennson with Thorne
and the signings of both Hughes and Jarrett.
The first three deals in my view have weakened the side, and the last two seem inexplicable given that the manager feels he can't play them both together in central midfield. Setting aside the need to replace Francis, we already knew that Saf would miss part of the season, and that he is the type of player prone to injuries and suspensions, so not having cover for him seems foolhardy.
So what I see is a lot of expensive and unnecessary transfer activity and ask myself why? The obvious explanation is that Worthington has totally lost the plot, but since the board claim not even to have discussed his position that apparently isn't the case. So then I consider other possible explanations, however absurd and unlikely they may be. Hopefully Neil Doncaster will assuage my fears.
