Well...

For Fernandes, the entire venture is purely a vanity project - no more, no less.

He is ONLY interested in the reflected glory of a West London boutique club, attracting world class footballers and charging world class prices.

Everything he has done up to know points to his utter determination to run before he can walk - hence the squad fall out as big bucked mercenaries with (ahem) "global reach" were parachuted in and clashed with stout yeomen like Clint Hill, Shaun Derry etc etc.

He is equally determined to get a new stadium, which he can fill with monied tourists (like some kind of EPL Monaco). Problem is, he hasn't got a site yet and now reckons it could be five years away.

He appointed Philip Beard as Chief Exec even though he had no idea about football. He is a venues man and may well take the hit in due course for the calamitous recruitment policy of the club. You can't blame Warnock, Hughes or Redknapp - they're just playing with the toys in front of them.

So, this will go one of two ways. Continued failure due to poor football management at Board level (no sign of that changing really) or a return to the Premier League and yet another round of unsustainable spending (for the umpteenth window running) next August. And off the cycle goes again. No stability, no building, no momentum.

Personally, I'd be amazed if they came up this season. Hooper would have been the perfect buy and so that's another reason to be happy we got him. Otherwise... Richard Dunne? Karl Henry? No-one is learning.

Fernandes is an egotist of monumental proportions. QPR is his grand folly.
