Depends what you want it for.

I've got a retina Macbook pro and for me it's worth it just to have the ability to have 2 external monitors connected (whilst still having the built in screen to use as well). But then A) I didn't pay for it (work provided it) and B) I'm a developer so using multiple screens is a big requirement for me.
