"Alderweireld: 'Walking away from Ajax for nothing is not an option'

Toby Alderweireld is expecting to leave Amsterdam during this transfer window, but if that doesn't happen, the 24-year old Belgian defender will extend his contract at Ajax.

'I know I am ready for the next step and think everyone else sees that too. But if it doesn't come to a transfer in this window, signing a new contract at Ajax is logical, and Ajax and me always find a common agreement.', Alderweireld told De Telegraaf. 'The club has benefited from me, and I've benefited from Ajax. Walking away from Ajax for nothing would hurt Ajax, and that would only hurt me. That is not an option.'

'In any case I am going to think about where I would get considerable playing time. Just like Louis van Gaal, our National Team manager (Marc Wilmots) believes that you have to be playing to go to the World Cup. Here at Ajax I've normally got that security. I want that at any potential new club as well. Or at least a good chance of it.'
