they're so busy that when they don't immediately know what's wrong, they can't afford the time or resources to find out.
i mentioned in here, a monthish ago, that I was inexplicably unwell, and received some helpful advice. I went along to a NHS Walk-in Centre, to find that it's part of A&E. Well, that's the logical place to put it, but it renders it a bit redundant: had I known it was in A&E before I went, i wouldn't have gone. As it was, I waited an hour before I went back to the desk, apologised and said I was going home. No complaints, but everyone was clearly in more urgent need than I, and I feared that the advised 4-hour waiting time might be a bit optimistic.
So I went to my appointment with the Triage nurse, who really didn't have much to offer beyond vague encouragement.
"So it *is* getting better, then? That's good news"
"well, what do YOU think it is?"
"Well if you find that moving at half your normal speed, helps, carry on doing that"
"Well, *try* getting back on the bike, and doing your gym, and if it hurts, call us again"
In the meantime, it's gone away, ta for asking, though the burping while walking is still happening. No pain spasms though, which is good.
