I'd say it depends on the car

I once put top of the range tyres on a car, and they were still in perfect nick three years later when I scrapped the motor, and I couldn't persuade the scrappy to pay for them or give them back. So, yes, they're worth the wodge. But no, not if the car doesn't merit fancy tyres.
