take someone like Russell Brand (whatever people think of him) he could have quite easily died many years ago of drug abuse (same with P!nk the singer) but they were young enough to get the help they needed when there was still time to reverse the bulk of the damage

unfortunately gazza never got that as far as I can see
that's where I think family and friends let him and others in the same boat down, not nipping it in the bud ASAP!

But it's never easy, and takes a huge amount of courage and resilience and commitment to help someone like that, it takes a lot of NO's and being cruel to be kind in the long run, I guess gazza never had that or pushed those who wanted to/could help away maybe

now it's probably too late for that kind of help
