February 2013: His agent, Terry Baker, told BBC Radio 5 Live that Gascoigne had relapsed again: "He won't thank me for saying it but he immediately needs to get help ... His life is always in danger because he is an alcoholic. Maybe no one can save him - I don't know. I really don't know."[82] Gascoigne was placed in intensive care in a US hospital while being treated for alcoholism in Arizona in a rehabilitation programme thanks to financial support provided by ex-cricketer Ronnie Irani and Chris Evans.[83] He had suffered a very bad alcohol withdrawal syndrome during detox; he had to be tied to his bed, and a doctor said that it was "the worst detox that he had seen". He was revived three times after his heart had stopped, and he had needed several injections to keep his heart and lungs working, and also librium (a sedative).[68][84][85][86]
