Presentation is everything and policy doesn't really count

cf Blair (brilliant at presentation, no clue what to do with power once he'd won it) - the most successful politician of his generation - and Brown (crap at presentation, and despite being difficult personally deeply brilliant with grounded, developed ideas on policy) who'd not win an election in a million years (except that time when he nearly called one but bottled it, of course - his First Hundred Days was brilliantly planned and executed but after that...)
