I wouldn't leave food outside.

It might attract foxes, other cats and the like.

I think you've done what you can, waiting is really the only thing you can do. Our old cat went missing at the age of 6 months for 48 hours, I eventually found him two streets away. He was fine but obviously hasn't been able to find his way home. (He wasn't an indoor cat).
