There was a wonderfully terrible trend in the early 00s for bands

They'd come up with great names, usually a bit emo, but would promptly get a bit embarrassed and try to become a serious band and would acronym their name and try to claim that it was not short for anything anymore and that was their name.

I'm thinking specifically of:

The All New Adventures Of US > TANAOU
Youthmovies Soundtrack Strategies > YMSS > Youthmovies

but there were others and of course the original pop-punk purveyors A Fire Inside > AFI
