I'd say that in a nation of approx 40m people to choose from, not having any genuinely talented flair players playing professional football that can turn and win matches versus other nations is a bit of a concern. This suggests to me that these individuals exist but have been lost to the game at some stage or, more worryingly, have never kicked a ball in their lives. Most footballing skills are honed in the streets, parks and back alleys before the age of 12. Youth football leagues and parents are killing English football with their insistence that youngsters should learn to win matches rather than learn to play football.
