Yebbut we didn't 'forget about them' did we. They are both right in what they say.

While we continue to delude ourselves that we could actually win competitions with these players then we won't.

Sort of like AB says, need to start again with some younger players and make it know the next tournament is about experience, and going as far as we can, nor that we might (should) win it.
