I think that once again we need to be weary of writing someone off too early...

without having seen enough evidence to judge.

Last season the following players were written off, at various times, as not good enough:

Turner;
Pilkington;
Snodgrass;
Howson;
Holt;
Bunn;
Garrido;
Johnson;
Fox.

Butterfield is still a young player with plenty of talent - who's to know how he would develop given a full inury free pre season and a bit more time with the rest of the squad.
