I think thats a little harsh

while Barnett may not be as good as we have he is obviously a decent upper champs level CB.
Cardiff want him and obviously Malky knows defending.

Lambert obviously saw something in Ayala to buy him.
Still young enough to develop into a decent player.
Maybe hoots is the right manager to turn him into a very good defender.

letting Ward go made perfect sense, decent champs CB but isn't really going to improve much at his age.
