to be fair, you can have players up to the age of 23 in the team

so they can have quite a bit of experience (can remember Milner playing for U21s for years, for example). Think the team last night was a bit short of those more experienced players.

Mind you, it was also coached by Stuart Pearce, and was full of English players. I imagine those were the bigger problems.
