I remember being quite profoundly affected by that at the time

I was 17 and there was blanket coverage on the tv. The car turning up in the middle of the funeral, trying to get away, getting blocked in.

And actually, the print media coverage WAS explicit. I'll never forget the front of the Sunday paper the next day - a bloodied body, very similar to the image you shared actually.
