If I was talking about performances against the different teams or making a comparison to results in the same fixtures last season I would have made a stat about that.

Regardless, they gained better results than they did last season, others gained worse (us for one), so there's nothing to suggest that the league was easier/harder. All this shows is that it's possible to improve as a team but perform worse in the league.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. If you want to make a stat about performances against different teams and the shift in overall quality in relation to expectations then go ahead, but this is not about that in any way shape or form.
