Couple of fillums I watched last night

Ruby Sparks - for the first five mins I thought I was in for a really dreary time but far from it. It's a proper movie, with a few laughs and a serious point to make. Recommended to anyone. Plot line way down at the bottom of this.

Recommended only for people who aren't put off by these words: Rock of Ages is a corny, unoriginal plot weaved around the lyrics of all the 80s soft-rock songs and anthems that cause 90% of us to change channel immediately. It ought to be awful but because it's chuckling at itself it sort of works, and fair play to the actors for doing their own vocals (including Tom Detestable Cruise: I wouldn't have watched it had I realised he was in it, but fair play to him, he wasn't loathsome in this, even though his character is). Be reassured that Wind Of Change DOES NOT feature among the songs. I'd have sacked it after four bars in that case.

Ruby Sparks plotline: successful but lonely young genius author, writing his next book, imagines a perfect woman. His brother advises him not to try to write a girl because he knows sod-all about women. Author continues writing her, right up to the point when she materialises in his house. Many laughs around this point which fade away as their relationship does what relationships do.
