FAO earlydoors - football as a rich man's toy

Well yes. Do you think owners that rich buy a club like that for a laugh? No: they buy it to turn it into one of the biggest clubs on the planet.

And with regard to that: two successive CL humiliations - the latter after the worst return by an English club in CL history; a manager who never talks to his players and frequently throws them under a bus; no discernible style of play whatsoever; and the spineless, insipid, half arsed s**te served up on Saturday - which neither United nor Chelsea would ever produce in a Cup Final in a million years - is never, ever going to cut it. City's players weren't even talking to each other during the final: it was unbelievable, and an appalling comment on their manager.

More than that: City's owners want to build the club from bottom up, and a style of play which is crisp, attractive, and based on teamplay. Pellegrini fits the bill perfectly. And City's owners also give every manager the chance of taking them to the next level; they only get rid when they fail. Which Mancini, on the biggest wage bill in English football history, most certainly did.
