Wes has only been truly effective behind a front 2

where he has options and movement ahead of him, and can drop deeper to get the ball rather than effectively playing as a striker alongside Holt.

He's been playing too far forward, and unable to link up play. Get the impression both him and Holt - our two most important players - hate playing in Hughton's system. No evidence other than Holt's interviews and Tweets saying he prefers to play in a two, and Hoolahan being far less effective this season than last.

But Hughton isn't brave enough to play the diamond that suited Wes so well.
