Ah yes. I've tried that with some free software

It was incredibly unreliable and would connect and disconnect randomly. There is a piece of software called connectify, which might be a bit better than what I was using (virtual router), or it could have been that I was in an environment with too many competing wifi signals. I couldn't work out a way of just doing it by USB.
