Pretty much everything in and around The Mall is free entry...

All of the Smithsonian Museums are excellent (particularly the Air and Space Museum if that is your thing).

The views from the Washington Monument are also brilliant (and it's free to get up there) but you may have to queue unless you get a ticket in advance.
