Simple really. Aliens invented us. When we get a bit stuck in our evolution they turn up

and move us on a bit. Think of it as say a 0-0 draw at home to say, er, Reading. 89 mins on the clock and nothing is going to happen. Then *boom* , a large monolith appears on the half-way line and we all get out the clappers and float off into the sky !
