irelands government had a special deal with japan in the 90's to bring in foreign investement.... sandy industrial estate south of dublin was full of small jap engineering companies getting a foothold in europe.... one of my colleagues got a placement to work in one then spend 2 years in japan - all cos of the deal the government made to take irish eng students, give them a job and train them up....

every country fought for investment and maggie won her fair share...
