First 35 minutes we were totally over-run. In previous wins over Swansea we've pressed them high, played at a high tempo and hassled them into mistakes. First 35 minutes today, we did what we always do - let them have the ball at the back, sat off on the half-way line apart from the odd two-man press, and played at far too slow a tempo.
As soon as we scored, which we didn't deserve, we started hassling them, getting tackles in and playing like a team desperate for a win.
Then half-time came, and the first 15 minutes of the second half looked like Hughton had asked them WTF were they doing? Back to sitting and letting them play keep ball.
Two or three minutes before the goal we had a decent spell, then we totally bossed it again and they looked totally gone. Wes was finally getting the ball and we dictated things.
Then, after their goal, he took Wes off and we never looked like scoring again.
The thing with Wes is that if we're under pressure, like almost the whole first half, he doesn't do a lot because he's starved of the ball. It's when we have more sustained possession around the box that he comes into his own. We had that for a good 20 minutes second half, and then when they equalised we needed to get another goal. THAT'S when you need Wes on the pitch, not an idiot barging around fouling people, diving and getting booked.
