Need some help some my English lingo...

I am thinking of writing this:

"I apologise for the length of this email but I thought that it was important for people to understand that what I have done is used my initiative, diligence and common-sense in a professional manor and it has proven to be the right thing to do."

or do I say at the end "....has proved to be the right thing to do." ?
