i think the point is

if the welfare system didnt protect these people from their lifestyle they would have to change their lifestyle.

in countries with no welfare system 17 kids by 5 mothers doesnt happen. Nor does getting pregnant by strangers after dogging sessions.........

didnt they start the fire to get a bigger council house too?

Its hard not to see some connection between their behavior and the welfare state.

Not saying I agree with it but the point the mail is making in its own charming way is that they are only scum like this because the conditions have been created for them to become scum.

The trouble with having a caring non-judgemental benefits system is that it isnt neutral. By being non-judgemental it encourages what most people would consider reckless and selfish behavior because it protects people from the consequences of their actions. The problem is I wouldnt want to live in a country where Milliband, Cameron or Clegg (or god forbid the daily mail) decided what was appropriate behahvior.........
