I think it's a risk x a risk

say we have a 10% chance of relegation (for sake of pessimism). We then have to sell him to a prem club - to satisfy his contract. The chances of selling him at a loss: say 10% again. Overall risk = 10% x 10% = 1%.

Excellent gamble.
