My new boss is precisely the same. He had a mega David Brent moment last week when

in a meeting with me discussing how to run a certain project which was far bigger and more complex than any he'd ever run (if you're going to exaggerate, then make sure you align it with your LinkedIn profile!), and I'd managed to deliver it in about 1/3 of the time we'd normally take to do it. But of course had to cut some corners with procedure etc.

So, he was moaning about me cutting the corners and he decided to illustrate his excellentness by bringing out a company (completely different company and even different sector) newsletter from TEN years ago, with a photo and article about him having delivered a project in a short space of time. "That's me. A little younger. A little thinner. When I won an award for a fast project. And did all the process. It can be done."

He carries it around with him.
