so Northern European taxpayers pay for the losses?

I don't really see why that's fairer than the people who invested in the banks paying.

And the ESM hasn't ben used for that up until now. The only banks who've been bailed out before now have been bailed out by their own taxpayers. We and others have been able to afford it (so far). Apart from the Irish, who it pretty much bankrupted. The Cypriots have no way of doing it on their own.
