Train - get an off-peak travel card with zone 1 tube included (provided you're not getting down there in morning rush hour).

Nightlife - try around Shoreditch (Old Street tube). And check out the Hoxton Hotel (in Shoreditch). Ring them as they often have deals - but may be a bit late for next week.
