was Bale actually that good here?

he certainly scored a great goal but did nothing else whatsoever in the game except run sideways into dead ends.
I know we live in a highlight-reel driven world where to do one spectacular thing plus a load of sh*t is deemed better than to do a load of really really good things but even so...
