Two reasons

One, the weather is s**t. That helps them stay British. You just can't stay British if you're poncing off to the beach every weekend.

Two, they are totally dependent on Britain. (Unllike Oz.) They need Britain to defend them against the Argies. So psychologically they WANT to be British.
