It's the manner of the defeat

Compare it to a fight in the schoolyard.
One kid just covers up the whole time while the other repeatedly pummels him.
You hope the kid getting slaughtered can land a lucky punch but after a while it's just
boring to watch. No one wants to watch a mismatch and that's what today was.
