Employment legal advice needed...

Over 4.5 years my employer and wage accountants have messed up my wages and Childcare. My employer is now asking for over ?5000 to be paid back. If it had been over the last year I would have accepeted it but to think its gone unnoticed for 4.5 years is surly a big error on their part.
Have I got a case to sue or not pay?
