try turning off google now

hold down the home button till google appears in a white circle then swipe to that and it'll bring up google now. There's three dots somewhere (I think on the header, I can't remember I already turned mine off) and from there you can get to a settings menu where you can turn it off. Made a slight improvement on my battery life but I think it can be significant on some devices
