Not all of them are.

Some of them are tendentious, badly-made s**te. Same as the Soviet films - there were some really intelligent film-makers combining politics and aesthetics in a clever way, but a lot of really awful, tedious films that in the main you'll never get to see (Chapaev is the only one I've watched - unbearably dull).

Make sure you see 'M' some time, though, that's amazing.
